I found this tutorial online; it’s called rusty metal text effect. What made this tutorial interesting to me was the amount of detail they got out of it and yet still keeping it a vector image. I really loved how they made multiple fills and adjusted each one to make the effect that more awesome. I also liked how they used the gradient; it really pulls off that rusty effect.
I feel this tutorial was very useful because it teaches you how to look outside the box in illustrator. Shows you some neat tricks with the fills that you could use on any project your working on. Not only could you use it on all your text, but also just on about everything you create. I went through every step on this tutorial and was able to follow it perfectly. So for those of you who have a hard time following instructions, I think you will be just fine. The tutorial starts off with simple text, and then they add a brown, black gradient to it. In that they put a scribble effect, and then add a new fill, and in that fill, add some new effects. They repeat this process a bit until they get the results desired.
This tutorial could help with many projects. Lets say your working on a logo, but you feel the colors are too simple. Well add a few effects as shown in this tutorial, and make it that much better. I feel there wasn’t anything missing from this, I think it was done very well. Someday I would like to write a tutorial like this, maybe about how to not use illustrator like me. hahaha.
